چکیده

SMARTHOUSE technology offers devices that help the elderly and people with disabilities to live independently in their homes. This paper presents our experiences from a pilot project applying case-based reasoning techniques to match the needs of the elderly and those with disabilities to SMARTHOUSE technology. The SMARTHOUSE problem is decomposed into sub-tasks, and generalised concepts added for each sub-task. This decomposition and generalisation enables multiple case reuse employing a standard decision tree index based iterative retrieval strategy. Documented real situations are used to create a small case base. An initial prototype is evaluated empirically using leaveone-out testing, and separately with the domain expert on newly created test cases. Results show that system generated solutions to be comparable to those of a domain expert. Importantly, the iterative retrieval strategy employing multiple indices generated solutions that were significantly better compared to a one-shot retrieval without indices. q 2004 Elsevier B.V. Improving Agent Performance for Multi-Resource Negotiation Using Learning Automata and Case-Based Reasoning

In electronic commerce markets, agents often should acquire multiple resources to fulfil a high-level task. In order to attain such resources they need to compete with each other. In multi-agent environments, in which competition is involved, negotiation would be an interaction between agents in order to reach an agreement on resource allocation and to be coordinated with each other. In recent ...

Combining Strict Matching and Similarity Assessment for Retrieving Appropriate Cases Efficiently

It is essential for case-based reasoning (CBR) systems to access trnly relevant cases efficiently. Similarity assessment adopted by many CBR systems needs performance improvement, especially if the case library of a CBR system consists of a database in the target domain which is not equipped with suitable indexing for the CBR system. In consideration of this problem, we are exploring use of str...

Using Textual Case-based Reasoning in Intelligent Fatawa QA System

Textual Case-Based Reasoning (TCBR) is an artificial intelligence approach to problem solving and learning in which textual expertise is collected in a library of past cases. One of the critical application domains is the Islamic Fatawa (religious verdict) domain, which refers to seeking a legal ruling for religious issues that Muslims all over the globe pose on a daily basis. Official religiou...
